Our Team

PRESIDENT

Marcia Caldwell was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Marcia was raised in a two parent household along with three other siblings. With her being the only girl and the second oldest child, she took on the role of being the “big sister” and with that role, came a lot of responsibilities, including chores and other child-rearing duties.

During her elementary school years, Marcia attended Rozelle Elementary School in East Cleveland, Ohio; at this school, she joined a team called “Dance Troop” where she gained a “sisterhood” and many long term friendships. She then attended Kirk Middle School, also located in East Cleveland, Ohio, where she joined a cheerleading team that promoted teamwork. Leaving East Cleveland schools, Marcia attended James Ford Rhodes High School in Cleveland, Ohio where she became labeled, a troubled teen, but finished her educational years with a General Education Diploma (GED). Marcia then relocated to Anchorage, Alaska where she attended Charter College for Administrative Assistance and Secretarial Science.

In 2005, she had her first child, a daughter, Octavia which forced her to become a role model, mentor and teacher. In 2009, she moved back to Cleveland and decided to switch her career into a trade as a nail technician, where she received her certificate at Inner State Beauty School. Becoming a nail tech drove her to become more involved within her community and she also gained networking skills. In 2017 and 2018 she mothered two more children Omari and Oubrey.

In 2019, her two youngest children lost their father to gun violence which opened Marcia’s eyes and encouraged her to form the non-profit “Guns Down, Hopes Up Foundation” where she serves as the President and CEO. Through this non-profit, Marcia has been able to help educate, comfort, embrace, and provide free resources to parents and children whom have experienced the same loss she and her children have confronted. In this role of big sister, Marcia gained a sisterhood where she has been able to learn more teamworking skills and also developed the ability to mentor troubled teens who have endured major losses. The loss of her children’s father, gave her a foundation to mentor her community with the same struggles and losses she suffered.
